I had reached the limit where ambition is scuppered by ability... Having bought a cheap e-bike a couple of years ago, I found that getting out of Llangollen without having to get off and push was limited to just one (enjoyable) route of approximately 20 miles. I really wanted to conquer the Horseshoe Pass and the many desirable ways back that would open.
I'd not ridden a bike for over 40 years when the front wheel of my bike suddenly stopped going 30mph but the back wheel and rider didn't, I discovered that can't stand up and peddle. Not being a cyclist (I just ride a bike) nor owning any lycra, I reached out via email for ideas that would give me the possibility of getting up that hill.
I received a friendly reply asking me to drop my bike off to see what could be done. This I did
I was not in any great hurry but after a couple of months of silence I thought I should see what was happening. It turned out that I'd dropped my bike off when their 'engineer' was on holiday and my job had fallen through a crack in their processes and hadn't been looked at. I wasn't particularly bothered but as the weather was improving and I'd put on a stone, I was now in a hurry.
We discussed the options and set a budget of up to £200.
Four days later, I received a text to collect my bike. A chat revealed that I had a solution fitted with all pros and no cons for a very reasonable £130. Did it work? I need to build up to tackle the Horseshoe but I've tried a couple of slopes on the backroads that I used to struggle with and even in the shape I'm in, climbed with relative ease.
I am discounting the delay, things happen. Once the error was discovered, I received what can only be described as excellent service and a much better bike than the one I dropped off.

I came in to store and was quite desperate for some help with my teenage son's carrera bike as he had a pre-planned biking activity which he really wanted to attend.
I approached a member of staff and he took me straight to the bike mechanic and asked if he could help me get the break wire replacement and recalibrate the gears.
He said he would and would call me as soon as it was done. Within 60 minutes, I received the text saying it was complete, I collected, paid the very reasonable £40 charge and my son could attend his event.
Overall, I wanted to take a minute to share this as the service was superb, could not have asked for better and more reasonable.
I recommend this store completely. You cant go wrong!
A good range of bikes in the shop so you can actually see what you want to buy, supporting by knowledgeable staff. I never felt like I was being sold something I didn't need
Alf’s have always given me great service. Whether buying a new bike, or getting advice about a bike the staff are always helpful and have the time to chat about your requirements.
Just had a dropper post fitted to my Gravel bike which meant new bar tape too. Very pleased with the job done.
