Response From Camp Bow Wow Rochester
May 26, 2017
I am sorry to hear your experience fell short of what you expected. While I am not sure of the details at drop off let me discuss some of the possibilities which may have applied to Bo.
Please know our first priority is for our campers, their "state of being", safety, health and enjoyment here at Camp. I understand you know Bo and I believe when you say he is the least anxious dog you know, and that is probably how he acts at home, on walks, if you take him to the dog park, playing with neighborhood dogs etc. Camp is different from your day to day life with Bo. Any "new" experience for a pup can illicit and unfamiliar response, one different from their "normal" behavior.
For this reason we highly encourage first time boarders and boarders who have not been here in a while ( I noticed Bo's last stay with us was in January of 2015 over 2 years ago) This is definitely a "new" place for him, one he is not familiar with, we encourage our pet parents to bring their pup in at least one time if not a couple prior to their boarding stay so they are comfortable here, get familiar with the staff, routines, other pups and know you are coming back for them. These are some circumstances which could have influenced Bo's comfort level.
If a camper is showing anxiety (which can be through a variety of behaviors) they are telling us they are uncomfortable at that moment in their situation, my team is trained to pick up on these behaviors, bring it to our trainer or management where we come up with the best play plan for the camper to make their stay here as comfortable and at ease as possible. When a dog is in an uneasy state they find security when removed from the situation and security in their cabin. This is not a punishment for the pup, it is to help them feel at ease.
I do apologize we did not reach out and communicate our strategy with you while you were away. That is our fault, part of this process is to contact the pet parents and let them know of the play plan and why we feel it is needed for their pup, I am sorry for this oversight in your case.
I hope I have explained and addressed your concerns. If there is anything else I can answer please contact me.
Thank you for trusting us with the care of your fur-babies. Enjoy your day and weekend.
