Derise is an amazing yogi, and she always has some words of wisdom for us to chew on before we begin our practice. I love the way she teaches: she warms us up slowly, then gets us sweating like crazy during the flow, then masterfully cools us down. Give Derise a raise!!
I also really adore Mark, our rock and roll yogi. He always has good words for us too, and his class is so much sweaty fun that I can't wait for the next time. I am a total fan-girl for this man, but don't tell him that, because I'm super shy. Mark deserves a raise too!
Derise runs the best Core Power studio I've ever practiced in. It's an extremely high quality group of experienced teachers that accommodate all levels; don't feel the need to show off; plan well for the week; don't blast then shout over non-conducive music; know how to adjust without hurting you; and pace at rates that allow me to actually establish a pose and breathe into it without rushing off to the next one to cram too much in. Good people really make a difference, and this studio has some of the best in the Core Power system.
In contrast, I'd rate the 3 Core Power studios in Dallas (where I work twice a month) at maybe 3-5 tops. The least experienced teacher at Core Power North is better than any yoga teacher at any studio in Dallas—that's just a fact.
My only suggestion is that you find a way to pay your premium teachers better so they can make a living. The good teachers are committing their lives to the practice and not doing a part time thing. I'd also suggest sending some of the Core Power North teachers out to seed your newer franchises and train the teachers there. The danger of the Core Power model is that rapid expansion leads to teachers who are only minimally connected to the deep roots of yoga, have no contemplative depth, and have no connection to the states of mind, body and consciousness that Yoga points toward.
I've taken the Core Power teacher training, the Yogi training, and have done a cleanse with you. I think the basic Core Power sequence is very sound, and I love the fact that you are bringing Yoga to America in a standardized format that meets people where they are. Yet Yoga is not a paint-by-numbers exercise program, and Core Power would benefit greatly from a recognition that you need more of what this studio has, and seed the system with teachers like the one's at this studio.
Kelsey is one of the best instructors at CorePower so I recommend her specifically regardless of what studio she's at. I follow her to North Boulder, South Boulder, and the Hill. That being said, North Boulder definitely has the best clothing of the three studios.
