I recently attended the Body Combat class with Roger - not only did I get an excellent full-body workout, but I afforded to receive that from an energetic, supportive, and articulate instructor. I look forward to making this class a regular part of of exercise routine.
Additionally, I had not been to the Davis Scott Family YMCA in nearly a year. Even though it is walking distance from my house, I drove to a different YMCA which had more equipment which aligned with my needs. However, I understand the importance of supporting our local resources and made a commitment to including at least a weekly visit to Davis Scott. I was blown away but the upgraded equipment and, although this is a smaller gym, the arrangement of said equipment to ensure the gym didn't feel crowded. I have enjoyed walking to the gym multiple times within the last month; in fact, I haven't gone back to my previous location. The friendliness and welcoming nature of the Davis Scott staff is just the icing on the cake. I am proud to call to have this YMCA as my local, community gym.
The friendship and the staff. Everyone's very loving and really care for each other. Even the instructors are very caring and supportive. We need the pools fixed. Water exercises are very important.
My relationship with the YMCA began about 50 yers ago at the Alamo Branch YMCA located at 1730 E. Commerce street in San Antonio, Texas. I was the Director of the Alamo Branch YMCA after the retirement of Mr. Odie Davis, who was a great leader of the YMCA. In or around 1976, I wrote a proposal for the YMCA of San Antonio to revenue Revenue Sharing funds to construct a new YMCA in Pittman-Sullivan Park. This facility today is known as the Scott-Davis YMCA.
While I am incredibly proud of what the Davis-Scott YMCA does in the community, I can also say I am a new member of the Branch and use the outdoor walking track twice a week. I live more than 15 miles away and actually pass several YMCA's on my way to Davis-Scott. While my history of my association with the YMCA is rarely known, I am proud to have been an integral part of its continued success in San Antonio and Bexar County.
Swimming activities are my favorite. I like the variety and frequency of the activities. I also like having to reserve a spot ahead of time to limit the number of people in each session and the online reservation process is so easy. I took a friend to visit the Davis Scott branch in hopes of her joining and going with me. Unfortunately the pool’s heater is not working right now but I was assured it will be soon.
