My relationship with the YMCA began about 50 yers ago at the Alamo Branch YMCA located at 1730 E. Commerce street in San Antonio, Texas. I was the Director of the Alamo Branch YMCA after the retirement of Mr. Odie Davis, who was a great leader of the YMCA. In or around 1976, I wrote a proposal for the YMCA of San Antonio to revenue Revenue Sharing funds to construct a new YMCA in Pittman-Sullivan Park. This facility today is known as the Scott-Davis YMCA.
While I am incredibly proud of what the Davis-Scott YMCA does in the community, I can also say I am a new member of the Branch and use the outdoor walking track twice a week. I live more than 15 miles away and actually pass several YMCA's on my way to Davis-Scott. While my history of my association with the YMCA is rarely known, I am proud to have been an integral part of its continued success in San Antonio and Bexar County.
Swimming activities are my favorite. I like the variety and frequency of the activities. I also like having to reserve a spot ahead of time to limit the number of people in each session and the online reservation process is so easy. I took a friend to visit the Davis Scott branch in hopes of her joining and going with me. Unfortunately the pool’s heater is not working right now but I was assured it will be soon.
I am totally please with the Davis Scott Family YMCA swim program. There are a variety of instructors to match every kids needs. I would like to give a special shout out for Ms Shelly & Mr Hector. There are exceptional! My daughter started the program not even wanting to get her face wet. By her last lesson, she was doing the back stroke, jumping in and no longer holding her nose. Ms Shelly was very knowledgeable, timely, firm and nice at the same time. I will continue to sharpen daughters skills at the YMCA. I have another daughter that had knowledge and a basic concept of swimming. By the end of her lessons she had 3/4 different techniques down and I am very comfortable with her being in a pool now and she'll be able to have lots of fun. I would strongly recommend the Davis Scott YMCA.
I love the pool and the close friendly atmosphere. Everyone is very friendly and have become my "Y" family that I even hang out with away from the YMCA. Please make the repairs quick on the pool so I can keep up with my work out routine. The last time y'all closed down for 3mths and I gained back all the weight I had loss and got out of my work out routine. My Doctor was not happy.
