I absolutely love the ymca! The staff are so engaging and helpful, they are always making everyone who comes in feel welcome and they keep the ymca so clean! In my opinion the downtown ymca has everything you need in a gym and I am very happy I decided to give it a try. All the staff is amazing but Connor at the front desk in the mornings is the absolute best, I really appreciate the great vibes he brings everyday, the effort and care he has for the ymca community is apparent and appreciated by (im sure) all the members! They do a wonderful job of being festive as well and though I havent had the opportunity to explore the group exercise classes yet I think its so cool that they offer classes pilates and I hope to go to a class soon! Thank you guys for all you do for the community!
Opening up at 5AM during the week isn’t easy, but Connor does it punctually and with a smile and a greeting, every time. He’s got a great attitude and it’s obvious he cares about his job and takes his duties seriously. His warm demeanor definitely makes the 5AM workouts seem less daunting.
Downtown YMCA has been great recently! I have really appreciated the influx of female staff members. Julian regularly interrupted my (female) workouts for a variety of reasons, including asking me to clear equipment I was actively using so that a man could use the same equipment. Since rejoining the YMCA last month, I have not seen Julian and have instead been greeted by female staff who quietly share locker room entry info and announce their presence when entering various spaces so as not to scare or surprise!
My wife and I love that we can sit in the sauna together. We like that there are no children when we go. We have children and adore them but don’t bring them to this Y. It’s a “grownup” experience and seems more orderly, calm and peaceful than the more kid friendly Ys. The locker rooms are clean and the downtime for the sauna and therapy pool seem to be less than that of other Ys around town.
