I value senior drop-in access to the gym.
As I senior, I have to start training slowly and carefully.
It's very helpful to be able to go to the gym for a short session, with few reps on the machines.
It's critical so that I don't overdo it and injure myself while I'm rebuilding strength.
I'm also so glad that Sunday hours restarted!
It's very accessible to families - I like that there is a shaded area for family members to sit and wait. Teacher Mary (?) has been amazing with the kids
I only use the gym. currently, but I do keep my eye out for programs I might want to join in the future. Whenever I talk about the East Palo Alto YMCA, I emphasize the friendly, relaxed atmosphere, as well as the excellent upkeep of the facility. I especially enjoy the diverse mix of cultures and ages. I'm 75 years old and I never feel out of place.
I swim at the East Palo Alto pool, and I think that the facilities are great.
I'm a little bit confused about the "not too much nudity in the locker room" sign. How much is too much? There are some showers that are in direct view of people at the lockers. Does that mean we need to shower with clothes on when using those showers? If we are using the more hidden showers, do we need to bring our clothes into the showers and risk getting them wet so that we don't dress and undress near the lockers? If there aren't too many people complaining about the sensitivity of their youngsters, might you suggest to them to use the family changing areas?
I love the variety of classes and the professional instructors. Gentle Yoga with Anette is so uplifting. She offers powerful affirmations during class that stick with me. I’ve even shared them with friends when they're feeling down. She gives plenty of options for each pose and always reminds us to listen to our bodies. There’s no pressure, just acceptance and a great workout for both mind and body.
I also really enjoy Vinyasa Yoga with Tomoko. Her classes are challenging in the best way, and I always leave feeling energized and invigorated. Tomoko is wonderfully encouraging, especially when guiding us through trickier poses. She offers gentle shoulder adjustments at the end of class, which are so helpful and calming.
And finally, Kendra is a phenomenal spin instructor. Her classes push me, but they’re easy to follow. She brings such a positive attitude and always has the best playlist. It’s exactly what I need when the burn kicks in.
Overall, I’m so happy with the quality of the instructors and the variety of programming. Thank you for bringing such amazing services to the community!
