I would like to commend Paul, the general manager, at Riverlakes for outstanding customer service.
On Tuesday, May 5, 2026 I was registered for a VTL Fit class at Riverlakes. On Monday evening, I received a phone call from Riverlakes, at Paul’s direction, informing me that the class had been cancelled. Paul has instructed his staff to do this in the past as well. This is the type of customer service that should be the Gold standard for all of the In Shape locations. Many of the ladies that I take classes with do not check their phones in the evening, so they do not see a push notification, a text, or an email that may have been sent. In making every attempt to contact the member to let them know that the class has been cancelled, it saves the member valuable time and disappointment by not going to the gym, only to find out that the classes no longer available. It allows the member the opportunity to rearrange their schedule for the day. The excellent customer service I received at Riverlakes was the EXACT OPPOSITE of the customer service that I received from Marisol at the Coffee Road location. I was never informed that the Tuesday VTL Fit class that I had been taking regularly at the Coffee Road location had not only been cancelled for that particular week, but that the class had been removed from the schedule permanently! No notification in the reservation portal, no text, no email, no phone call, NOTHING!! I drove clear across town thinking that I was going to take the class and then go on about my planned day. I had to shift things around so that I could get a workout in somewhere else, which was inconvenient and annoying. Because I make my reservations several weeks in advance I still showed two weeks worth of classes in my registration portal, only to find out that I was registered for classes that had been eliminated. I know for a fact that the member’s names are shown for the classes they register for, so there was absolutely NO EXCUSE for Marisol not to direct one of her team members to make a phone call to ensure that we knew that the class had not only been cancelled for the day, but permanently. She did the same exact thing when another VTL Fit class, this one was on a Thursday morning, was cancelled and removed from the schedule. That type of customer service is disrespectful and infuriating as a member!
All of the staff at the Riverlakes location is friendly and welcoming. You feel appreciated as a member. I have been to every In Shape location in town, with the exception of White Lane, and the Riverlakes location is the cleanest. The Riverlakes location has an excellent selection of equipment and it is always in good repair. If something breaks, they do their best to get it fixed as quickly as possible. I love the addition of the strength training room!
BEST gym in Bakersfield hands down, the staff is very courteous and always greeting you the moment you walk inside the doors, layout of equipment is very spacious and gym itself is nice and clean! Would recommend to family and friends!
I needed administrative help in upgrading my account so to acquire access to the 7oaks/ming location and only Riverlakes was able to help me get to the solution. This location is absolutely top tier. Also, shout out as to how well they maintain their equipment and upkeep with cleanliness. I’m only leaving because I moved locations. Sav and DJ are awesome! They took the time to hear my need and solved it in less than 24 hours.
in Shape Riverlakes is a nice clean gym with very friendly staff. Staff take the time to greet people as they come in and wish them a good day as they are leaving. Not only do they share pleasantries as customers enter or leave, they listen to individuals and try to get to know their clientele. All the staff goes the extra mile to ensure a pleasant and safe experience at the gym. I have been to other gyms in town and felt like an outcast, and even unwelcome. Not so here!
Had my first and second personal training sessions with Jaime. He is quite knowledgeable about helping me with my weaknesses and getting me on the right track.
I’m new to the gym but aI like is the customer service, always welcoming and helpful, I’m in the silver sneakers class, absolutely love it, and Heather the instructor is awesome!
