My child will be in 5th grade in the fall of 2017. She has been attending Mathnasium since March 2017. During that time our evenings at home have been wonderful because we no longer have the crying because she did not understand the math and I did not know how to help her. It was very frustrating for us all!! After school she was excited to go to tutoring!! Joe and the other tutors for her grade level are amazing! She never felt intimidated to ask questions or to attempt an answer that she may get wrong. At school progress report time I contacted the teacher to ask about progress. Teacher said my child showed more confidence and was actually participating in class by raising her hand to answer questions..... YES!!!
Math scores improved but since we started Mathnasium so late in the year the full benefits of her tutoring will not be evident until next year and years to follow. We will continue through summer to keep those math skills fine tumed and to keep her confidence up.
Kicking myself that I didn't start this years ago!!!
My daughter is learning difficult concepts in math and she said her instructors are very good at explaining them in terms that she can understand. As a result, she is gaining more confidence in tackling her class.
I am very happy with my daughter's math progress. I believe it is because she receives extra help with homework and with studying for tests/quizzes. It is the reason why she is able to maintain an A in her hyper-compact math class in middle school.
I am concerned, however, about the comments that are made by one teacher in particular. He has said things like "I can't believe you forgot that 5th grade concept" and "I hope you're not doing inappropriate things on your cell phone."
I want my daughter to continue attending Mathnasium throughout her middle school years. But I won't be able to force her if she feels she's being ridiculed. I think teachers should remember that the students have already spent 7 hours at school working hard and the extra hour and a half they put in after school is exhausting for them. Please cut them some slack and be understanding of a teenager's mindset.
My son just barely started Mathnasium but I can see some improvements in school & his confidence in himself. He also loves going . They are all so nice & patient with him. I really do appreciate everything they are doing .
I really like the center setting; very spacious and each table is set up for different levels of knowledge. Every instructor is very knowledgeable in the subjects. I have seen big improvements in my three kids' math at school.
