My son started to work with Mathnasium last month of his 7th grade, last academic year. He was close to failing at school just because of his math teacher, who had adopted a teaching method not suitable for students who are rather introverted but extremely smart: 'if you get it great, if not that's not my problem'! My son was a perfect A in math lower school and then had the same teacher 6th and 7th grades which brought him down. He's gone now.
We have both of our children in SCDS. Which defeats the purpose: one puts their children in a private/prep school so one doesn't have to tutor yet again privately their children. Right?!?!
He went to Mathnasium Wilmington Island, for the entire summer. He loved the schedule flexibility, and people who worked with. Now, that the school started back, he does some of the math homework there. This way it gives him confidence on his assigned work.
The good thing about them is that one gets a monthly report that assesses where your child's basic math skills are at. We all know very well that there is no way of going ahead in math if the base is not solid! I highly recommend Mathnasium! Especially for the summer when kids go brain dead!
This has been a great addition for our child to continue to build confidence in his math skills. He looks forward to working with everyone and gets excited about collecting stamps. I feel that we made the right decision by having our 10 year old son attend to give us all support from our 1 1/2 year transition from homeschool. He allready had a love for math that has now grown even more! Thank You Islands Mathnasium!
My son has been doing extremely well. Last year he was behind and frustrated. Since he started and went though the summer with this program, he feels ahead of the game this year. We are grateful for Mathnasium and it has been a well worth the investment.
