I've lived in Berkeley for years and have purchased several bikes from Mike's Bikes, and gone in there for service help many times. I used to think that the services department was terrible. Service people were unhelpful, everything took too long and cost too much. It was to the point that I started going elsewhere for service for a few years.
Just over the last few months I've had some issues with new parts on my bike (that I installed myself) and I've gone into Mike's Bikes for help. My recent experiences have been completely different, the service staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Great bike mechanics with great, friendly and helpful attitudes. I would now recommend service from Mike's Bikes to anyone.
Called to see if the store had a SRAM battery replacement in stock. Person on the phone quickly determined that you did. I arrived at the store, went to the service counter, and had a replacement battery in no time.
I came in 5 minutes before they closed and asked for them to switch out my pedals because I didn't have the right tool. They did it for free (I purchased some Nuun because I needed it anyway but mostly because I appreciated it). These guys are always so relaxed and helpful and not condescending when I forgot how to use a presta valve (a few months ago).
I really was grateful for how the bike felt after the tuneup. The gears were flawless, and the brakes, which is what prompted me to bring the bike in at this time, are functioning perfectly.
I feel like I have a new bike!
And the turnaround was really quick!
