Joel arrived on time and was honest about what he could do and not do. He admitted he did not have the correct equipment to clean out the dryer vent. I appreciated he told me he couldn't do it as he might destroy the hose.
I had a few little projects I wanted completed for my home. I needed a console table built, a custom table top/shelf unit for my laundry room, some mirrors hung and a rat's nest of cables slipped behind a wall unit that was already bolted to a wall.
A friend of a friend is a local contractor and was well recommended. He came to my home and spent two hours discussing what I wanted done, creating sketches and promising first, that he would send me estimates and second, that he would absolutely be available to complete the work. He then completely blew me off. After I chased him via email and texts for six weeks he finally replied and said he was not available.
After that, I had a bad taste in my mouth for contractors so I put off the work for a long time. If I could not trust someone I knew to follow through, how could I trust complete strangers? Every once in a while I'd ask friends and sometimes complete strangers for recommendations of anyone they might know but all I'd get was shrugs. Apparently finding a competent handyman is hard work!
Last week I got a mailer from Mr. Handyman. I was tired of my home not looking the way I wanted so I gave them a call on Monday morning. Doreen in the Carlisle dispatch office was fantastic to work with and she scheduled an appointment for Brad to come over on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM. I mentioned one of the mirrors I needed hung is quite large and heavy so she set up the appointment so Brad had someone come out to assist.
After I made the initial appointment, I remembered a few other things that I needed done. Every time I called or emailed, Doreen was there to add things to my punch list.
Brad and John arrived on time were personable and got right to work. After the mirror was hung, John left and Brad finished the other tasks. He also took a look at some pictures of what I was looking for him to create and took some measurements. He said he was going to draft up an estimate and that Doreen would call me to schedule a return visit to bring the table and install the shelf.
I also have an antique bookcase/desk that is quite tall and looks like it could tip over if not treated gently. It needs a new back (not sure were the movers lost half of it!) and to be attached to a wall. .He gave me some options and we will look into getting that done as well.
The pricing was fair, Brad did a great job. He even took out all the trash from the moving materials. I was very impressed with their work and would highly recommend them.
