I was worried to be joining a gym at my age. I found the lovely staff member encouraging and made the task of joining great.
I have been seeing trainer, Simon, who has been fantastic, working with exactly what I have going on and helping me feel more at ease with training.
Thank you.
Mandy
Normally I'm a classes gal but recently I used the main gym floor at Newtown in the morning. Despite it being peak time (6:30-7:30am) the gym didn't feel clogged or cramped. I think this was due to the high ceilings and the big windows. This made the space feel comfortable and friendly.
The facilities are amazing - not a typical gym with 2 squat racks and 4000 treadmills - a great mix of cardio machines, powerlifting, weightlifting, functional equipment - with plently of each so you never feel crowded. The space itself is really big giving you ample room to come in, have all the space you need without encroaching on other's spaces.
the staff are super friendly - when i asked a question to a random staff member he finished with "hey man, its your club" which is a small thing, but made it seem so personal.
Fire gym, great staff, and relatively inexpensive too!
I look forward to my training sessions at One Playground mainly because of the positive atmosphere.
The people, both staff and fellow members are great to be around
friendliness of the gym, variety and challenge of classes, the instructors. I've been going for a few years and plan to continue as long as I'm in the area!
Not sure if I get the chance to put this on the next page or if submits after this.
Only critique, which I've given a few times now and feel like I'm banging on about, but the fan upstairs in the Newtown program room has been broken for months, as well as while the Reformer room has gotten better, it's still so much warmer than Marrickville (not as familiar with Surry Hills).
It's lovely to see all the new gyms opening, but can feel a little funny when something like an industrial fan goes un-repaired for months on end.
I love all of it !
The Classes, the Instructors, the Staff, the vibe, the decor.
I also love trying all the different classes on offer, BadAss, Calisthenics, Dancing etc
I love the classes, the instructors are fun, motivating and keep the classes fresh so that even if you come each week you know what you're getting but it keeps you interested and trying new moves. They always make you work waaay harder than you would if you went to the gym on your own, but without all the shouty culty style stuff you can get from other gyms. Even though classes are busy, there's always plenty of room, and they make sure to keep an eye on everyone, checking your form if you need it, or being there to answer your questions, its helped me get back into loving the gym, I look forward to my classes every week! Also imagine having reformer classes included in your membership and not having to go to a whole separate gym! Yes the reformer classes are busy and book out, but if you keep an eye on them you pretty much always get a space! Shout out to my fav instructors at Newtown - Chris Jumman (his strong classes are amazing), Jack Bowen (all his classes are torture though!), Neave Welch (her Reformer HIIT is hardcore but awesome) and Kayla Stanton (a new fav but her reformer classes are great!)
Simon my PT is an amazing guy, never has an off-day. I don't know how he does it! The gym is pretty flash and the fitouts just keep getting better and better, but I'm not sure I rate the newer "german equipment" compared to the old black stuff and sometimes the cleaners are just pretending to clean lol.
I appreciate all the available classes etc and majority of instructors are fantastic. Do you have any plans on doing up the Mind Body Room in Newtown? Or at the very least fixing the aircon, putting some fans in and at least vacuuming the floors daily. There’s constantly tumbleweeds of hair on the ground and it lets the classes down.
