Here is my feedback and a few suggestions to consider.
The friendly staff and wonderful fitness instructors are what make me stay a member of the JCC. The variety of fitness classes and feeling of community with other women in them give me an important sense of belonging.
I moved here 7.5 years ago and when I joined the JCC is when I began feeling this community was home.
I recently visited the JCC in Charlotte, NC. They have a small room connected to the locker room that is a mind/body room for members. In it are 2 zero gravity chairs, cabinets with massagers u can wrap around your neck, legs, back etc. Also a comfy water filled lounge/table u lay on that the front desk turns on for 15-20 min of cold therapy. Another gym i went to had something similar but it was heated hydro massage. If that was offered, I'd use that room every day if allowed. The room also had a mat with an area to stretch. I think there was a way to listen to guided relaxation audio with provided headphones.
**please, please, please talk to that JCC and consider creating a similar space.
I also like that the jewish library has moved to being right on my way in/out so now I'm using that more.
*I wish it opened at 10 instead of 11 because most of the morning fitness classes end by 10:30.
I haven't attended much else, such as speakers or classes beyond the fitness center. I'm not as familiar with what is offered and I think announcements and advertising those things could be more visual in the lobby area more than only fliers.
*Perhaps large visual signs with balloons would build excitement along with an QR code going right to a registration page about an upcoming program, is an idea to consider.
I'd be happy to discuss these ideas. If that would be helpful, please call [PHONE NUMBER REMOVED] Rena Dubin.
I love everything about the JCC, and I want to acknowledge the timely and clear communication regarding building and schedule changes due to the ongoing renovations. The building already looks awesome, and we look forward to the upcoming improvements!
The J is an amazing place to work and be part of a community. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else! I've made incredible friends. Its home away from home! My family lives it also!
I am a Park Heights JCC person. I go to many of the group exercise classes. They are the best!! The instructors are fabulous, knowledgeable, funny, and caring! The facility and equipment are state of the art!
If you never tried the group exercise classes, you should. The energy is uplifting; the people are friendly; and did I mention that the instructors are top notch?! No distractions from trying to exercise at home. No watching the clock on the boring treadmill. You get your workout done and have fun at the same time.
I love the sisterhood of the fitness classes, the expertise of the instructors and the support I have gotten to reaching my personal fitness goals!! I love the way the classes have continued throughout the renovations and how the aesthetic improvements have contributed to my feeling supported and cared for throughout the past few years.
Thanks for your support. Love the jcc!!
Very satisfied by the variety of fitness classes and quality of the instructors.
Not so happy about the length of the renovation and the phasing of the work. Very bad idea to affect both locker rooms at once, given the duration of the work.
I also see some shortcomings on the room finishes. Durability and ease of maintenance should have been a priority.
The group fitness room's walls are peeling, and will not withstand the wear and tear caused by the equipment; they really need wainscotting as protection.
The pool has lots of female swim time. It's very nice to be able to swim in a friendly place. The front desk is always welcoming.
The library lady is awesome. The lady who is in charge of the library is so friendly and knowledgeable about almost every book there! She knows what my family would appreciate and recommends good books for us.
Also, I love that they text updates about the pool so we don't get all ready for the pool to find out that the lifeguard is not the right gender or that it's closed for various reasons.
Thanks!
