I've worked out regularly in many gyms over my 40 years of lifting, and Retro Fitness in Fairfield, NJ is the best. The facility is large and airy with great equipment that is well-maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful. And the other gym members are by-and-large really friendly--there's a collegial atmosphere. I highly recommend this gym!
Friendly staff, quality equipment and great gym atmosphere. My only “complaint” would be the sauna not being fixed. Would love for it to be working again, even if it meant we had to pay a few extra dollars/month on membership fees. It would make a huge difference for the gym.
C, D, LJ & Sal are great people! They always take care of the members - free weights and machines are great. Super atmosphere, but the front desk staff has the best personality you could ask for in a gym
to be honest, the gym is great, big, clean and the amount of equipment is impressive. the staff are top notch and it's just a great overall experience. that being said, I would like to offer suggestions for making it better. As a trainer and strength coach, I think it's a mistake the gym does not have a hyper extension station. the gym has 2-4 of everyother piece of equipment and hyper extentions are probably the most important for members over the age of 40 and if we wanted to really impress/ imporve the member's health, I would suggest a reverse hyper extension machine. it's fixed more back problems and increased overall squat and deadlift PRs than any other aux work routine. I highly suggest the owner buy one of each. the members will thank them. The other suggestion is different benching bars, i.e football bar, stability bar, deficit bar etc. These bars offer such a range of additional workouts for the members, it adds distribution of usage verse the cables and machines as members can utilize these bars as an alternative to the machines/cables when they're in use. I hope the owner consider's these suggestions as I want this gym to not surrive but thrive and become a known spot for serious workouts. I came here from another local gym and i didn't even know it was here. I've been a member of multiple gyms in the area over the years and I probably would have just been a memeber here had I heard about it/ it was known in the strength circles in the area as a viable alternative.
