I've been a customer and a fan of Rutabaga Paddlesports for decades. I've been to more Canoecopia events than I can count. My fleet is five boats and counting. Why? Darren talks about building community. And for me at least, he and team have done that. I feel like I'm part of that community of paddlesports lovers and not just another nameless, faceless,"transaction." You carry the best brands in the business and match that with your customer service. Shout out in particular to Ethan, who helped me on my most recent visit.

I'd only visited Rutabaga once before and was impressed by the quality product line as well as the helpful staff. After deciding I needed a new solo canoe I knew this was where I needed to go. I live in central Illinois and all serious paddle sport folks I know have recommended Rutabaga through the years. We were not disappointed when we showed up on a Saturday to look at the canoe selection. Brad was extremely helpful and friendly while helping us. I was able to demo 4 boats and chose the Swift Prospector 15. Brad and Brandon walked us through the option choices and the order was made. I've never special ordered any high end product prior to this and it's a big deal to spend 5k on a boat as basically a novice paddler. Looking forward to the delivery of my new canoe!

I traveled to Wisconsin from southern Ohio to visit Rutabaga as recommended by my daughter and her husband. I was in search of a very specific Swift solo canoe, and they told me that Rutabaga was the biggest Swift dealer in the U.S. I talked to Tenny on the phone a couple of times. He interviewed me about my specific interests in the boat, and what options would best suit my needs. Based upon those chats, we zeroed in on the model and options that felt like a "best fit". Tenny encouraged me to visit the store and take a test paddle before I made my purchase decision, given that this was not a trivial expense. It was very useful that the store had several variants of the Swift boat in stock, so I could select the one matching my needs. Tenny was knowledgeable in discussing the boat and these options. He was patient with me as I took the test paddle and asked questions. I left the store with a Swift Prospector 14 strapped to the top of my car. I look forward to taking it on a backcountry trip later this summer to Wabakimi Provincial Park in Ontario Canada!

Brad was very kind and helpful. I tested 3 kayaks and never felt rushed or pressured. He was able to share his kayak fishing experience with me to help me make an informed decision. He addressed my concern with loading a heavier fishing kayak on my tall vehicle and his advice was spot on. I couldn’t purchase that day, but I’ll be back to purchase a kayak and gear very soon.
