Recent delivery of propane and cooperation of Eric and Steve was great. Both Eric at the Orcas office, and Steve the Orcad delivery man, have always been very great to deal with. However, the service on getting hook up of new appliances in the last year or so is less than satisfactory and way too expensive for the job required. I always hate to speak poorly of anyone particular. However I have been thinking for some time that I should say something about the technician that you now have on Orcas Island for servicing new appliances and installing new gas lines. For example, about a year ago, I had that technician do the connections to 2 added gas fireplaces and also to an existing barbecue. His knowledge of the fireplaces and the time spent to get them to work seemed less than top-notch to me. Also at that time when he was out to hook up the fireplace lines and the barbecue line which went right by where I was going to put in a gas cooktop, I asked him to tee off a line to the gas cooktop I intended to put in an island that I was building in the kitchen. However, he refused to do it. He said we had to have the cooktop in place so that he would know where to put the line even though I told him I knew exactly where the cooktop would go and where I wanted the line routed. He could have put a line there with a shut offso I could then hook the cooktop up myself later instead of paying for another service call. The most recent experience with the same service man was a couple of months ago when I had him out to put the line in and hook up up the aforementioned gas cooktop. I felt the charging was excessive and the workmanship was done in a somewhat Cavalier attitude. For example, after he had completed the gas cooktop work, I said I thought I could smell gas but was assured by him that a leak test had been done and it was just my imagination even though my wife could also smell gas. He was arrogant and dismissive of our questions about whether he actually did do the leak test. So at his prodding I signed the paper saying that he did do a leak test even though we didn't actually see him do it. Since then we kept smelling gas under the cooktop whenever we turned on the shutoff valve to the cooktop. Now a man working with me on flooring said he smelled gas under the cooktop. Finally I had time to do a simple test with soap suds and saw that indeed the connection to the cooktop was blowing bubbles where the technician screwed the shut-off valve into the cooktop connection. Since I have been very busy finishing construction on the house and have not had time to do anything about it up until a few days ago I have not called to complain but intend to do so. This morning when I got up early I saw your email questionnaire and so I decided to respond as above. I would like to repeat that the people in the main office at Orcas Island like Eric who I have dealt with for years, and Steve the delivery man are fantastic good people but my only complaint is the serviceman as discussed. Service has always been top notch and trouble free. I am disturbed that my last bill was over $500. I don't understand this.
