It provided an opportunity to experience the whole process of a rock band, it was challenging and exciting. Days were a bit too long I would consider a camp that is longer (2 weeks) half day.
Danny enjoyed the camp! I'm thrilled to find a camp that can tailor to older kids (12-13) as it can be tricky to find summer camps that suit tweens. The instructors were very encouraging and there was a friendly vibe among the campers in his group.
One request I have is to let kids sign themselves out. I felt silly crowding into a small waiting room waiting for my almost 13 year old to be dismissed. Or, perhaps kids could line up with their counselors outside on the sidewalk for faster dismissal?
School of Rock Chicago has been the best experience for my son. He started doing summer camps and has made his way up to the Show Team, which is a great honor. He has had amazing teachers (Keith, Josh, Maggie, Nick, and many others) who have taught him not only to play songs but have introduced him to new music and theory concepts in order to understand how to become a better musician. The teachers at SOR Chicago love music and most are working musicians. They relate to the children and encourage their love of music and desire to learn.
The show team is lead by Alexis who is incredibly supportive and encouraging. She listens to what the students have to say, gives excellent feedback, and pushes them to always be their best.
The school does a great job of picking season shows that span a wide range of artists. The rehearsals are efficient and the students learn to work together as a team as well as setting up and breaking down for shows. They perform at locals venues, some that famous bands have played, which is fun for the kids and families.
Michael Murray, the general manager, is amazing and I would tell anyone to bring their children to School of Rock Chicago. Michael goes out of his way to keep us informed of shows, lessons, policy changes, and special events. He always greets me with a smile and is professional in all situations. He does not hesitate to help in any way like reschedule lessons and truly wants feedback to make the school even better than it already is.
As my son gets ready to graduate from high school and move on to college, I know he feels prepared to audition for bands and not be afraid to play in public. He loves SOR so much he hopes to teach for the school one day.
The kindness and patience of all the instructors. Re-booking lessons is made easy as well when there are conflicts and the push and positivity to get the kids on stage and performing.
I can't say thanks enough to all of your teachers/staff at School of Rock Chicago! My daughter has truly found a home at School of Rock and has loved participating in the perfomrance program. She immediately became part of a group and has enjoyed the multi-age experience. She has learned from others and has been able to lead and teach as well! Thank you for creating a space that is inspriring for students to spread their wings!
You guys literally Rock! :)
Everyone is super friendly, informative and this type of creative outlet has been pure magic for my 8 year old.
Thanks for all you do!
You are not rigid schedulers and can adapt to your client's constraints. I think you do a good job of understanding goals and aspirations and keeping kids excited about the instruments and music too. I think playing in a band as a requirement is the only thing I don't love.
