Our son looks forward to lessons every week. He enjoys his instructors and has learned much from his time there. And we really appreciate the staff being so friendly and accommodating.
From my son:
The kids get to choose songs rather than being assigned.
I liked every part of it!
From me the parent:
My son learned so much great new music. I was amazed at how quickly he picked up everything - a testament to Ait and Dan as incredible teachers.
I loved that all kids fully participated across all the songs.
Thanks for a great experience!
The teachers at School of Rock are all wonderful. The vibe is fantastic. Our child was super nervous about joining a band initially but was made to feel "at home" in her very first band session. It is definitely her "home away from home" and has inspired her future career aspirations.
I also strongly recommend School of Rock to families of children with ADHD whenever they inquire about inclusive activities. I like it so much that I posted in a special needs parenting group to recommend SOR and quickly had several other parents chime in that other SOR locations are just as welcoming as Evanston. It can be hard to find activities that are welcoming to children whose brains work a little differently. But School of Rock is exceptional. Your staff should offer lessons on how to engage kids with ADHD to school staff members and leaders of other programs. School of Rock is one place where an ADHD brain can be its true self without having to spend all its effort trying to fit into neurotypical expectations - ADHD can even be an asset at SOR! One of our child's bands wanted to call itself AD/HD (inspired by AC/DC), but settled on "Five Strike Limit" because the teachers are THAT patient!
Shout out to Evynne, our drum teacher. My son's drumming has improved over the past year and he is not afraid to tackle harder songs. He takes initiative to practice on his own. He enjoys playing with his bandmates.
We love everything about SoR. Our family takes four different lessons and is in three bands, from beginners to 101 to adult. While all of the teachers at SoR are mostly very engaging and great with kids, our family spends the most time with Dan, Donovan, and Ryan currently—what a team. They bring so much personality with their incredible musical talent to make every lesson and rehearsal feel like the best use of time, each member of our family has improved across instruments and musicality since starting with these teachers. We know you employ a ton of superstars but we just can’t say enough about how Dan, Donovan, and Ryan go above and behind what’s expected for their students and bands. It makes all of us feel like music is a safe and happy place in our lives.
We also can’t say enough about Henri and the entire team running the desk. It honestly brings tears to my eyes when I think of how special, safe, and comfortable my kiddos are growing up with music as such a fundamental part of their lives and personalities. From Maggie and Amy’s smiles when we walk in, to the thoughtful coaching from teachers adjacent to my kids, to the super cool programs, everyone feels like SoR Evanston is our home away from home.
My son has been attending SOR for five years! It has been amazing to watch his confidence soar, not only in a musical setting, but in school and all social settings. We love the one on one lessons, and when the students come together as a band, it's incredible to watch them on stage. We couldn't be happier with the program.
