Really impressive program...still cannot believe the kids learned four songs in one week and had a blast doing it! Great job by all of the teachers. Cannot recommend this school enough. Outstanding program!
Lauren, my daughter's vocal teacher is a nice and inspirational instructor. Loves the program. Want to shout out to the front desk Lydia. She is truly supportive and helped to coordinate the time for our make up.
As a family who has always participated in music programs and music lessons the format of having the child participate in a lesson along with joining a band is phenomenal! Not only do they get to practice, but they look forward to performing alongside their peers in front of their families as they go along. It is a very well structured program with great music teachers as well as a fun place they can go to practice. This format has worked very well for our family and can't wait to see what they come up with at each performance!
My experience at School of Rock has been great, especially considering I began this journey almost at the age of 60 with little to no expectations. Initially, I doubted my abilities and thought I would quit after a few months, especially after feeling overwhelmed and discouraged at my previous lessons at another place. However, my husband decided to sign me up for a free lesson at School of Rock just to see if it would be better knowing how much I wanted to learn to play.
When I met first met Jay, he exuded a sense of encouragement and realism. During my very first lesson, he taught me the groove to my favorite song. Although I couldn’t master it immediately, he provided me with a written pattern to practice at home. With a little effort, I caught on gave me a great sense of accomplishment. This “breakthrough” moment was a turning point, and I immediately signed up for more lessons.
Upon starting my lessons, Jay didn’t set unattainable goals or make me feel inadequate. Instead, he met me exactly where I was, acknowledging my starting point, and building from there. His ability to blend positivity with realistic expectations has kept me motivated and eager to learn.
One of Jay’s strengths is his skill in gently pushing me out of my comfort zone. He challenges me in ways that are manageable yet slightly beyond what I think I can achieve. This has been crucial in my development. What initially seemed impossible, slowly becomes doable, and with persistent practice, feels (somewhat) natural.
Every week, I look forward to my drum lessons with Jay. He selects songs that I enjoy and is always open to incorporating my song choices into the lessons. This personalization keeps the learning process fun and relevant to my tastes, which deepens my engagement and love for drumming.
Despite feeling like Ringo Starr while practicing at home, in reality, I struggle with performance anxiety and at times completely forget what I learned when others are around. Jay is incredibly patient and understanding, helping me navigate this challenge. His supportive approach makes me feel successful, even when I’m not performing at my best during our sessions.
After about seven months of lessons, I can see measurable progress in my drumming skills and I did a magnificent job (a slight exaggeration) air drumming at a concert I recently attended. This drum journey has not only enhanced my musical abilities (which are admittedly limited) but also provided a satisfying way to relax and simply enjoy my love for music.
The program teaches skills used in life, not just music.
Team work, responsibility, and achievement of goals, are just some of the life lessons learned at School of Rock. The music education is great gives the students a place to shine. Students come to the school early and stay late after their lessons and groups to hang out with other students to talk and play music. They love to be at School of Rock!
