The fact that they get you playing music right away makes it engaging! The instructors are also very encouraging, guiding you to good habits and growth without resorting to drills or demanding perfect play every time - instead they give you things to focus on for iterative improvements. I signed up with no expectations for how I would feel about the process and have found myself falling in love with music in a way I never imagined, and now look forward to class times every week!
The minute you step foot in SOR, you can tell you are entering a kind of sacred space where the vibe is all about making great music and growing as musicians, regardless of age or experience.
SOR has been a godsend for our entire family!
My daughter says School of Rock is her happy place, and one of the few places where she doesn’t feel stressed at all. She’s made wonderful progress with her bass, and has made so many friends! Her teachers are wonderful, and so supportive and encouraging,
- Rose!!!
- The whole place and the instructors are welcoming and non-judgmental;
- My kids love taking lessons at SOR because they feel respected and can see themselves improving. I don't think I would have been able to get one of them to take up an instrument outside of SOR, and now they love it;
- My daughter loves being in the band showcase and I was delighted she was included even though she was still a beginner;
- SOR works with families so that their kids can continue with lessons even when financial shocks disrupt household incomes; and
- our kids have made friends through SOR and love that it's outside of the school network.
We love SOR and consider it a real gem in our community.
The School of Rock's amazing teachers provide personalized instruction and support. There's no one-size-fits-all approach.
SOR's Rock 101 gives beginner students an appropriate instructional pacing. No rush (pun intended).
SOR bolsters foundational musical knowledge and skills like discipline, perseverance and resilience.
SOR doesn't teach only rock. Its sound comes in many flavors: Alt, Emo, Funk, Indie, Metal, Pop, Punk, R&B, R&R, Soul... you name it).
SOR definitely rocks!
Professional and friendly environment. Aton has a calming demeanor about him, and is committed to teaching music to the children. The approach to teaching seems to be laidback but structured. It’s not too serious that one may shy away from learning.
We like the theory and philosophy behind the program and how kids get to play in groups early on. Our kid is only taking individual lessons, and she has grown so much since September. Her teacher, Scott Barber, is hands down the best drum teacher she has ever had (and we’ve had 4 in the last year 😳) - he gets kids hyped for what they’re learning and knows how to explain things in an accessible way.
The confidence it gives the kids. The joy comes across on stage and when they leave practice and get into the car all excited. It’s so positive and grounded in teamwork and working hard.
Terrific approach to learning to play with others.
Very dedicated teachers, who really have fun with and relate to the students.
Well-run organization.
Overall great vibe!
