Water arobics, I started the y after having breast cancer surgery and radiation. My weight was 390lbs. After a year I had lost 109lbs. Everyone at the South Dekalb Y were very encouraging which gave me the courage to be consistent and start being a better care giver to myself. So the Y is a very important part of my physical and mental well being.
I like that the instructors are very personable. They design workouts that meet the needs and ability level of participants, and they are super helpful to provide guidance when I’m ready to up the challenge or try a equipment.
I love the pool and pool actives. I especially like the South DeKalb YMCA because it is one of the few pools in the area that has a 10 ft end! Love it!
I enjoy the variety of classes included in my membership. The ability to have a one-stop-shop for a smorgasbord of workouts for an affordable membership fee is magnificent!
THE LOCATION! The S.Dekalb Y IS MY COMMUNITY YMCA, and while I am VERY EXCITED IT HAS FINALLY RE-OPENED TO MEMBERS:
I WANT TO KNOW WHEN THIS LOCATION WILL BE FULLY OPEN???! ...and as well, when will the WATER AEROBICS PROGRAMS BEGIN!!!!
The programs and activities are nice as well as the interaction with the people which can be encouraging to me at a time I really need it. This helps with the needed motivation I need to help be active as I should. I want to enjoy my exercise period which makes it much easier to keep it up.
Very important to me to have a nice and consistancey in my work-outs.
Since this is My community Y which has the best pool in Metro ATL by far, I am so happy it opened back up. Looking forward to having use of the part of the facility- group exercise and weight room. I am very disappointed that our good equipment, that I use mostly - Peleton and Expresso bikes, treadmills, all of the free weights- are gone or have been given away to other Ys. Didn't they know that we needed it?? This Y has served the community for many many years.. so for the time being, I have travel long distances to other Ys to use this equipment. Please bring it back, asap!
We just finished with the basketball program. It was a great experience for the entire family. Now I hope to get more involved and use the facility more often.
Linda R. is great! She keeps her class motivated and pushes them to the next level. Even with me being a beginner student she made the class not as intimidating! Linda took the time before class to welcome me and explain the class and equipment to me. After class she checked in again to see how I liked it and if I had any problems. She seems very dedicated to her students.
The front desk help was awesome as well. I am a facility member at a different YMCA location. The guys at the desk took time to escort me to the area I needed to be in as well as point out other routes to take.
Will definitely have to stop in more often for classes!
I like how there is always something for everybody to do. Most importantly you have someone available to help out. After a workout with Joy the whirlpool is much needed. Lol, lol
