The teachers are patient. The programs are tailored to students' individual needs. One teacher is maximum with 3 students. Students are learning in a relaxed environment. Students may not learn in a fastest way, but they will make steady progress step by step and eventually they build up their skills to study independently. My kid have been with Sylvan since Grade 5 or 6 and he graduated from Grade 12 this year. His English was Developing for years and C-. But his English in Grade 11 is A and 84% in Grade 12. As a parent not native English speaker, I can see my kid's English improving during the years. And one more thing I would address is that when Sylvan teaches student writing an essay, the student learns the way how to write an essay step by step, not just write it. However, based on my understanding, Sylvan is not for students who want to pass an exam and get a good mark in a short time. Actually, Sylvan helps students build up their steady English foundation, catch up with peers, and evetually be able to study and improve by themselves to master English.

I had a wonderful experience with my daughter in Grade 1 taking lessons at Sylvan. The lessons were engaging, well‑structured, and helped build confidence in reading and communication. The tutor created a supportive environment that made learning enjoyable and effective. I truly appreciate the dedication and quality of teaching provided, especially detailed report and parent teacher discussions at the end of 4-6 weeks. It gives confidence in the progresss being monitored well and tracked in the system. Looking ahead, I am excited for the introduction of math word problems, as I believe my child will further strengthen problem‑solving skills while reading Math word problems. Her English comprehension reading level has improved so much and I love her confidence in challenging Sight word learning :)

My son was overloaded with a heavy academic semester, and Sylvan was able to simultaneously help him with both of his most troublesome courses with the same tutor. He was extremely reluctant to try tutoring, but has grown very open about it, and said his tutor is very concise and helps him with any questions. Thank you!

Sylvan has made my daughter very confident and they make the environment so fun, which keeps kids going to class. The reward system is awesome!!!.. children get tokens during class for their hard work!!. The tokens then can get you a treat/toy ect as an incentive. My daughter is confident in herself and is doing so much better in school. Thank you so much sylvan for all your help!!!…. Thank you for helping my daughter flourish!!.

I have been taking my grandson to Sylvan for 3 years. COVID left him and probably many others behind in their work. Sylvan has brought him up to where he should be in Language Arts and he is catching up in his math. The staff are absolutely terrific.

I like that it’s One, two or three students per teacher and it’s hands-on, not homework… The only way to tell what they’re having problems with is to see first hand and fthe. Start ocussing on that… Homework doesn’t do that. The teachers and staff are all amazing and my son enjoys going fully. I’ve seen much improvement in things he was missing between K and grade 1 and it’s only been a couple months. I would definitely recommend sylvan to anyone that hopes to keep their child up to speed with learning.

Chelsea and Samantha provide top tier service for our families tutoring needs. They are always very accommodating to our family's schedule and keep us updated with our children's progress. I also appreciate that they have done their best to keep the teacher consistent for our children. They do a great job running the Coquitlam/Burnaby location and i definitely give this centre a 10/10 rating.
