I really have several feelings about the Columbia City YMCA most of which is good. The indoor walk track is quite difficult to walk on because it tilts downward which make it a bit difficult.
Also the pool area really needs updated to have a hot tub. I greatly helps to relax the muscles after a good workout.
Now I love to go workout there because I don't feel like I am being stared at. The machines I use works the muscles I need to work on the most. I have progressed greatly on my weight loss journey.
All staff members are so friendly and helpful. I travel from Fort Wayne with my toddler for the little ones move and groove class and we are always blown away by how kind everyone is- especially Miss Katie! We love the Whitley Y so much it makes us want to relocate to Columbia city!
It feels like a large family when you walk in. The staff are very friendly and you get to know many of the patrons. The facilities are fairly well maintained and clean. Love the aquatic center. The pool is great and so is the steam room. The mens locker room is well designed. I appreciate the open shower design. There is no need to feel like you have to cover up all the time, and no judgement if you don't.
Val has been a great instructor taking the time to work with both of our sons who are very new in the water. She doesn't rush them to complish new skills but instead goes at their pace to build their confidence. She wants her students to have the confidence they need to save their lives in a water emergency if needed, not just be able to swim for fun.
They are amazing and caring crew. Literally every single one of them. My boy is the wild child and takes a lot of patients and they handle it with ease. :) The Whitley YMCA family is the best part of My family's week.
We love the Y and the swim instructors. They deeply care for the children in there care and helping the child to learn not only water safety but to become a swimmer.
My 6 year old participates in the adaptive swim lessons and is becoming more and more confident. Val is excellent. Appreciate her patience and accommodation
